All right, I plan on doing a series of a numerous number of different patio growing systems, and today I'm going to focus on one. This is called the Urbin Grower, and it's a small bed that has a trough in the bottom for water, and it's a self-watering system. The thing that I really look for in all my planting systems is that it doesn't involve electricity, or pumps, or things, 'cause, believe me, that's jus beyond my technical capability.I've been working with this Urbin Grower for several months now, and I'm growing turmeric in it. Turmeric is an amazing medicinal plant. I'm sure you know all about it. Here's the photo of when I planted this where I just got some turmeric root that I picked up from the grocery store and planted it in here. This is how it's growing. I have to say that I love this container. I just checked to make sure that the water is always in the bottom here. That water is a natural moat that keeps ants and other insects out, and it's also a buffer that if I'm gone for a week, actually, this planter is generally going to be fine. So far, I have to say, if you're growing in small spaces, on patios, or for those precious plants that you want to have by your house, the Urbin Grower is really working out well for me. I do want to let yo know, I'm going to be doing a whole series on other planters, so definitely subscribe to the channel and we'll also follow this one along and all the other ones that we reviews of. A few days ago, I had to go out into my garden and harvest all my tomatoes - even the green ones. Blight has set in, and I don't want to lose what's left of this crop. Pepper plants are perennial by nature, meaning they can live for several years if the conditions are right. In climates with winters, outdoor chili plants can be brought indoors to keep them alive until next year's spring.
In this video, we'll share our method for overwintering peppers. The process isn't for everyone, but if you have a special plant that you'd like to keep alive for next year (instead of starting from seeds again), you can try it out. Also, with seeds going out of stock more than ever, keeping your plants makes a lot of sense!
Remember that pests are your #1 enemy! Replacing soil and being watchful for pests is critical to avoiding and indoor infestation.

The first decent frost should be here in just a couple of days, so it's time to try to get the garden all wrapped up. We'll start today by laying down cardboard on all the beds. Then, we'll partially deconstruct the goat house, and move it out of the way so we can harvest all the goodness the goats created for us over the last year and a half. All that will be applied to the bed, and we'll continue to layer on more and more organic matter this fall, and even into next year. Great idea, work on the old things in your freezer.
We had 2 bags of frozen fish in the freezer that we never thought to cook. it would be going bad soon, so why not take it out and can it for quick meal prep. in this video I canned 2 lbs of frozen Cod that I let thaw in the fridge. if you have canned Cod or Salmon before leave me some recipe ideas in the comments below.Thanks for watching!

I've wanted to pressure can some beef roast for a while. It's such an easy quick snack, especially on those cold winter days when you just won't feel like cooking much. Our local grocery store had Chuck Roasts on sale "buy one, get one free" the other day, so I asked Rachel if she would help me learn the basics. I've watched her pressure can quite a few times, but this time was my first time. It's really not that hard. If you're afraid, just give it a go! Having healthy, home-cooked meals on the table each night is definitely a goal of mine. But that doesn't mean I actually have the TIME each day to make this happen.
Homesteading is tough work, and some nights all I can do is pop open a jar of homemade canned stew, heat it up in a pot, and serve it alongside a salad and some homemade bread.
But you know what? We're all so happy with this "convenience" meal!
