Today we review short the /a/ sound you hear in Aaaaaaby. (Abby) We continue to work on the distinction of short and long vowels. Practicing in reading and learning all of the nuances of phonics and phonics rules takes time. The rules are just a tool to help your child make sense of the sounds and how to differentiate which sound to make as they read the word. Some children may begin reading with out the rules and that's great too. Have fun practicing the short /a/ sound, all of the short vowels, and the vowel rules this week. Happy Reading! :)

Sometimes y acts like a vowel....A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y :) Today we will look at the letter y and make the long e or long i sound when the y sits at the very end of the word. Practicing the /er/ sound like a tiger. Also, reviewing the Mr 'e' rule. Letter pairs come first and Mr 'e' rule works in all of the words as always (unless a letter pair is in the middle of the word. Then the 'letter pair' trumps everything). Have fun acting out the 'someone who' /er/ words and the 'more of' /er/ words if you like. Please read all of the words on the board with a friend, family or maybe by yourself.
